La Mosque of the Prophetor Masjid An-Nabawi in Arabic, is the 2nd largest mosque in the world. Just past the Masjid Al Harâm, the Great Mosque of Mecca. A holy place whose merits the Prophet (peace be upon him) himself extolled. My dear brother, my dear sister. In these few lines, we will try to take you on a journey to this incredible historic site.
The Prophet's Mosque (Masjid An-Nabawi): a little history
This mosque is the 2nd mosque to be built in the holy city of Medinaby our beloved Prophet (peace be upon him). It was built at the time right next to the house of the Prophet (Peace and greetings upon him). Since then, it has undergone considerable enlargement and modification.
La The original size of the Prophet's Mosque was 1050 m2. Today, with the plans of the King of Saudi Arabia. Lhe mosque will soon reach 614,800 m2This does not include the outside areas. The plan is to be able to accommodate more than 1.8 million worshippers (compared with 700,000 today). To give you a more precise idea. Lhe Nabawi Mosque is now the size of the entire city of Medina in the time of the Prophet!
Incredible monuments
The Nabawi Mosque contains the tomb of the Prophet (Peace and salvation be upon him). As well as the tombs of his two companions, Abu Bakr and 'Umar (May Allah be pleased with them). An impressive green dome has been built over this room, setting it apart from the others.
The Prophet's mosque has 10 minarets 103 metres high, towering over the 27 domes and 250 automated umbrellas.
This unique place also contains the Prophet's chair (where he gave his sermons), 2 mihrabs and a very large bookshop. The architecture is grandiose, the ornaments each more magnificent than the last, not to mention the cutting-edge technology that runs the entire structure.
About "Ar Rawda
It is possible to pray some prayers supererogatory in a place called Ar rawda ". Indeed, by seeking his merit and hoping for Allah's reward.
According to Abu Huraira, the Prophet (Peace and greetings upon him) said: "The space between my house and my minbar is a garden (rawda) among the gardens of paradise and my minbar is above my basin". Reported by Bukhari (Sahih n°6588)
However, as far as obligatory prayers are concerned, the best place is in the front row, as is known from the Sunnah.
The different doors of the Prophet's Mosque
La Great Mosque of the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) has no fewer than 41 doors. Other doors have since been added, bringing the total to 85! However, the the first 3 doors to be built are undoubtedly the best-known features of the Nabawi Mosque:
- Bab as salam, or the gateway to salvationbecause it is the entrance to the place where the Prophet is buried, in order to salute him;
- The second gate: Bab Abu Bakr As Siddiq, or the Gate of Abu Bakrso called because it overlooked Abu Bakr's house;
- Bab Ar Rahma, or the Gate of Mercy.
Masjid An Nabawi: a very special reward
Those who have the opportunity to visit the masjid An Nabawi must take the opportunity to multiply invocations, reminders and supererogatory prayers in order toobtain the immense reward which the Prophet (peace be upon him) tells us about in this hadith:
The Messenger of Allah (Peace and greetings upon him) said: "A prayer performed in my mosque is better than a thousand prayers performed in any other mosque apart from the Sacred Mosque; And one prayer in the Sacred Mosque is better than a hundred prayers in my mosque. Sahih Al Jami'
